Hours 1951: The Technical Institute was formed from the Trade Program. Price Hall was dedicated to house the Institute.

Hours 1961: The Technical Institute became the School of Industries.

Hours 1967: The university became North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The Department of Industrial Technology was established to offer a B.S. in Industrial Technology.

Hours 1978: The B.S. in Industrial Technology was accredited by NAIT (now ATMAE).

Hours 1986: The Department of Manufacturing and Automotive Technology was established in the new School of Technology.

Hours 1989: The department name was changed to the Department of Manufacturing Systems.

Hours 1992: The department started the M.S. in Industrial Technology (MSIT) graduate program.

Hours 1993: The B.S. in Industrial Technology was renamed as B.S. in Manufacturing Systems. Smith Hall was dedicated.

Hours 2010: The department was renamed as the Department of Applied Engineering Technology.

Hours 2011: The B.S. in Manufacturing Systems became Applied Engineering Technology. MSIT became M.S. in Technology Management (MSTM). The department launched the B.S. in Motorsports Technology.

Hours 2014: The department started offering the MSTM program online.

Hours 2016: The College of Science and Technology (CoST) was established. The department became a founding department of the new college.

Hours 2018: The B.S. in Applied Engineering Technology was accredited by the ETAC of ABET. The Ph.D. program in Applied Science and Technology (AST) was launched.

Hours 2019: The B.S. in MST was changed to Automotive Engineering Technology.

Hours 2020: Technology Management became a separate concentration in the AST Ph.D. program.

Hours 2021: The MSTM program started three optional concentrations: Six Sigma, Advanced Manufacturing, and Construction Management.

Hours 2022: The Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) department was merged with the department.
